Pendleton Criminal History Checks

Three Pendleton Records Counters

Downtown Pendleton contains the 1956 county courthouse and offices for the district attorney. The sheriff and Umatilla County Corrections are at the Justice Center on NW Pioneer Place. Pendleton Police Records is at Airport Road. Each may be called a records counter in casual speech, yet each has a narrow job.

The county Recorder's Room 116 counter handles recorded instruments and county records, not state criminal court cases. The district attorney prosecutes but is not the routine clerk-copy source.

Records at Pendleton Police

Posted hours are weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office recommends providing the incident date, location and type, plus an involved person's name and date of birth.

Pendleton Police Report Fees

Two official Pendleton sources quote different prices. The police web page says victims receive accident, citation, arrest, and crime reports without charge. It quotes other requesters $11 per report, $11 for associated photos, and $48 per hour for excessive files, with a usual five-to-seven-business-day time frame. A newer linked PDF appears to quote $14 for a report, $15 for a report with photos, and $63 per hour for multiple reports or body-camera and dash-camera material.

The form requests the request date; requester's name, date of birth, address, phone, email and fax; a detailed description; relevant dates or case number; and a signature. The Pendleton Police reports page provides the current channel and is the source shown next.

Booking and Arrest Records in Pendleton

A Pendleton Police arrest generally moves to Umatilla County Corrections at 4700 NW Pioneer Place. County intake creates a booking file even though Pendleton Police retains the city report. This physical transfer does not make UCSO the owner of the police narrative. It makes corrections the custodian of the booking and custody portion.

The jail processed more than 3,700 intakes in 2024 and reported an average daily population of 175. It received Oregon State Sheriffs' Association accreditation in December 2024. Those local facts show why a county roster is useful for recent custody, but the roster still does not prove guilt or show every final case result. The city's Crime Graphics portal provides a daily activity bulletin plus missing-person and stolen-vehicle information. It is useful for locating a recent event or confirming that Pendleton Police handled it. It is not a full case file and should not be treated as a statewide criminal history.

Pendleton also maintains a voluntary, confidential security-camera registry. Police can see that a camera is registered at a location, but they do not receive a live feed. Investigators may later ask the owner for footage tied to an event. The registry is an investigative aid, not a public directory of camera owners or recordings.

The Pendleton Municipal Court File

Pendleton Municipal Court holds its own qualifying violations and misdemeanor matters, including DUII and Assault IV cases within its jurisdiction. The municipal file is not interchangeable with an Oregon Circuit Court file. State felony cases and other circuit matters go to the Sixth Judicial District clerk.

How Pendleton Records Reach the County

A city officer's report remains with Pendleton Police. County corrections creates the booking file. The district attorney makes an independent charging choice, and Oregon Circuit Court creates a case register after filing. Qualifying disposition data then travels to Oregon State Police CJIS.

Records can appear at different times. A recent activity bulletin or booking may precede a filed case. The filed allegation can change from the booked charge. A state history may lag while a court disposition is matched. Use the city source for the incident, the county source for custody, and the court for the final judicial outcome.

Pendleton Courthouse Record History

Pendleton became county seat after the 1868 vote. The present 1956 courthouse is the county's fourth courthouse. Earlier government records trace through an 1866 building in Umatilla City, an 1869 wooden courthouse after the move, and an 1889 brick courthouse and jail. That history helps explain why old records may need staff retrieval instead of appearing online.

Pendleton's county-seat role grew with railroad and agricultural development and exists near the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Proximity does not erase jurisdiction. Tribal, city, county, state, and federal custodians can hold different records. Identify the investigating authority before assuming a Pendleton office has the file.

OSP Cases Near Pendleton

Oregon State Police may investigate an event on a state highway near Pendleton. In that situation, Pendleton Police will not become custodian merely because the person was taken into custody in the city. Request the investigative report from OSP, check county corrections for booking, and check OJD for a filed state case.

Likewise, UCSO reports remain with the sheriff. The badge and case number on the first paperwork are often the fastest clues. Send each request to its source rather than asking one nearby Pendleton counter to reconstruct the whole event.

A transfer to Oregon Department of Corrections creates another boundary. The county roster is aimed at county custody and may no longer answer where a sentenced person is housed.
